“The highest approach of Art awareness is through Fashion”…Georgia Hardinge (Lusting for her River Island Collab Collection)

So Rihanna launched her collaboration collection with trendy UK high street brand River Island with a massive press event and her modelling some items of the collection.  I love RiRhi but to be honest, I don’t think I am able to wear any of the pieces (it might be because I am not young, hip or particularly fit – I mean really can you imagine me wearing something from her collection and then seeing Rihanna wearing the exact same piece…no need for “who wore it better”….FACT)  River Island are stepping up their designer collaboration game with their newly released “Design Forum” collection.  Design Forum 2013 features the extremely talented Georgia Hardinge.  Famous fans of her label include Florence (from Florence and the Machine), Lady Gaga, Beyonce and Alicia Keys.  Stylistas have been seen at various fashion weeks wearing some of her gorgeously printed or sculptural pieces.

A graduate of Parsons Paris School of Art and Design (2008), Hardinge has carved a name for herself with collaborations with Samsung, Lancome and now River Island.  She has been considered “one to watch” by editors of publications such as Harpers, Grazia and Marie Claire.  Her signature is to create “landscape shapes to uniquely accentuate and flatter the female silhouette. Fashion is Georgia’s way of molding design techniques to create an art piece of lasting purpose”  (Sorry, I had to quote from her biography as I really loved the way whoever wrote the piece describes Hardinge’s fashion aesthetic.)

River Island’ s Design Forum 2013 by Georgia Hardinge consists of 15 pieces with a black, white and gray colour scheme.  Consisting of the signature sculptural and molding techniques from her eponymous collection, the capsule collection with River Island holds super wearable pieces which could fit into any woman’s existing wardrobe.  2D grayscale prints and neoprene feature greatly in the collection.  I am thinking that DRESS ME blogger Jasmine Smith (nee Webster!) would love the crisp white shirt with the grayscale printed collar.

The White Shirt (My Pick for Jasmine Smith) £40 from River Island

The collection consists of dresses, shirts, skirts, shoes and a clutch bag meaning that you can add a piece from the collection no matter what size, style or age you are.  If you don’t want to chose the bodycon dresses or leggings then opt for the cute printed shirts or maxi dresses.  If wearing print scares you a bit then try the printed wedge sandals or the clutch.  Priced from £30 to £80, the pieces are a bit pricier than your average high street garments but not excessively so.  As with most designer collaborations, it is an affordable way of buying a bit of a designer bran without the price tag.  Also with young designers such as Hardinge, it is like investing in a little bit of art (wearable art, perfect!)

Here are my picks:

The Clutch (£60)

The Leggings (£30)

The Maxi Dress (£60)

The White Neoprene Dress (£60)

The Printed Dress (£45)

The Printed Wedge Sandal (£60)

All pieces are available at selected River Island stores in UK and also available online.  Please note that for international buyers that there will be a shipping cost depending on where you are located.

All pictures are not my own and are from the River Island website.

Hey there! I know this is kinda off topic however I’d figured I’d ask. Would you be interested in trading links or maybe guest writing a blog post or vice-versa? My site covers a lot of the same subjects as yours and I feel we could greatly benefit from each other. If you might be interested feel free to shoot me an e-mail. I look forward to hearing from you! Awesome blog by the way!
