Is it wrong for me to be inspired to write about the Ports 1961 F/W 2013 collection after watching the new TV series Hannibal? Yes, it is a tv series based on the cannibalistic serial killer personified by Anthony Hopkins in Silence of the Lambs. However, unlike the extremely disappointing prequel film, this tv series has as the New York Post puts it “good taste” (pun obviously intended.) Starring the charismatic Mads Mikkelsen (Le Chiffre in Casino Royale) as the younger version of Hannibal, this is extremely stylish and the first episode “Aperitif” hints of greater things to come (like the beginning of a fine tasting menu…)
So why do I want to write about the Ports 1961 collection after watching this episode? I agree it does sound a little bit twisted and rather grotesque however I will explain my reasoning. If you actually watch the episode, the colour scheme of the actual filming is very autumnal/winter…deep reds, golden yellows, dark bitter chocolate browns and deep icey blues. If you concentrate on Mads Mikkelsen’s Hannibal character, he wears very tailored clothing in a similar colour scheme. Also if you read Thomas Harris’ description of Hannibal, he has a deep maroon red glint to his eyes and is as sleek as an otter. Hannibal is known for his intelligence, etiquette, culture and exceptional good taste.
Intelligent, cultured and with exceedingly good taste is how I would describe the Ports 1961 wearer. The F/W 2013 collection is full of classic good lines. Amazing silhouettes in beautifully rich colours and gorgeous luxe fabrics. It makes me wish for winter to come already. (Well with HK’s current strange weather, it is not too much of a stretch to may be wear some of the pieces now!)
I unfortunately could not attend the press preview but from my fellow bloggers’ pictures, I fell in love with the beautiful leather coat dresses, charcoal separates and beautiful shoes and bags… (Dr. Lecter would definitely approve). I was literally drooling over the silver heels, the leather messenger bag and the previously mentioned leather coats (I think I have a thing for leather at the moment).

The men are not forgotten (yes I am going to return to Hannibal – sorry another
boy man crush) with the Ports 1961 F/W 2013 collection. Reflecting the themes of the women’s line, these clothes are for men with discerning taste. Yet they are not “fussy” as with some clothes which are exceptionally well crafted.
Whoever is in charge of costume for the Hannibal TV series needs to seriously speak to Ports 1961 PRs about pulling some pieces for Mads Mikkelsen to rock as Hannibal.
Only for the Man with Discerning Taste…
