Cobalt – a chemical element with the atomic number of 27 or  a cool blue colour.  Strangely enough though, this colour like its name evokes energy, movement… electricity.  Even warmth.  In fashion, the colour has been around for a while and for us Oriental ladies it is a great shade to wear.  Actually scratch that … for any lady to wear.  I have not seen one lady wearing cobalt who does not look good and hey its definitely more interesting than wearing a black dress.  The colour just seems to brighten the complexion so for us sallow complexion ladies…(like me it is a blessing).

As I am in an adventurous mode, I stepped away from the safe zone of a LCD (little cobalt dress…I have a gorgeous one from local label What the Frock? but wanted to push it and show the current trend of matchy matchy tops and bottoms.  I found a great pants and tops set from Marks & Spencer (warning the trousers are stretchy but can be very tight fitting!!) A word of warning here, check out the size above your normal size just in case as it might be a better fit.  No camel toe please!

COBALT COORDS…  This makes for a great change from a cobalt dress or even a trouser suit.  The top is smart enough and the trousers are sleek enough to look professional for work….

Excited for New Work Wear Options!!  Go Bold Go Blue Go Cobalt!

Another word of warning, with slim fitting trousers such as these and in such a bright colour, make sure you do not have the bottoms too long for you.  Ideally they should skim the ankles or just cover the ankles otherwise you have a lot of material in excess and fold ups do not help maintain the silhouette!

Does my BUM look big?  Simple accessories such as these sleek heels and my MISCHA black and white tote adds structure and balance to such a loud colourful piece…

With a top like this…do not do what I did, forget to tie the belt and pay attention to it.  This is definitely a DON’T shot as you can see that the belt half tied makes an otherwise polished look look sloppy…

My intention was to keep hair and accessories sleek to counterbalance my colourful clothing and also keep it work appropriate.

My hair (as you might have noticed) recently got cut and I have been wearing it curly.  However, for this shoot, I thought it would be nice to see how my new cut styles up when straightened.  I tried out the new GHD Platinum and they are awesome.  Hair was shiny and also easy to straighten.  Check them out (though they are pricey at around HK$2,500 per pop but much better than ruining your hair with cheaper imitations as my friend says…hair you wear with you every day!).  My bucket bag is from local favourite MISCHA and it really is a great city bag.  I put pretty much everything in it!!  I grabbed it in the warehouse sales but check out her current offerings to get something just as good.)

This MISCH Bucket Bag has been a perfect city bag…

Unfortunately or well fortunately for me, I got these awesome sleek heels from Badgley Mischka at a garage sale but here is a pair from Pedro Garcia’s Fall 2015 collection which would be a great alternative.

And one final thing…the COBALT COORDS!!  Yes they are from Marks & Spencer and you can get them in store or go online.

A big THANK YOU to Marks & Spencer for the outfit and of course to my boo Bryant Lee for the photographs. http://www.bryantleee.com!

My Pretty Woman moment…

No it is not the time when I decide to dress up in patent knee highs and short dresses and hang around street corners…

Nope – not that moment…

More the moment when she gets treated to experts in their respective fields of beauty and she turns out into a wonderful classy woman with beautiful bouncy hair…the specific scene is when Julia Robert’s character tells Richard Gere’s character that she “wants the fairy tale”…apart from my cheering her on ” YOU GO GIRL!!!”, I was also admiring her shiny bouncy hair.  So elegant.

She wanted the fairy tale…

I might not want the big quiff action going on at the top but I am currently lusting after the shiny bouncy waves.  I have a natural wave in my hair but it just usually looks bedraggled more than glossy waves.

All those who know me, they know I am a lazy person with regards to my hair (as my mum enjoys telling me – she had to remind me to brush my hair).  I have improved since then however I don’t really know what I should do with it.  As I have a round face, I need a certain amount of layers to help hide some of the wider parts of my face.  I usually go to a random on the street (especially in HK where there are so many and just ask for them to cut it…with mixed results).

I have total bouncy, shiny hair envy over the Middleton sisters.  They always look immaculate even when popping out on an errand.  Ok, they were probably blessed with great genes but the extra factor is that they pop into top UK hair stylist Richard Ward for cut and blow dry on a regular basis (every few weeks).  Now I cannot afford to go on this level of frequency (unless the boy wins massively in the Euro jackpot.) and have Richard on permanent speed dial. However, I would love to have a “princess moment”

So when I heard about a sassy deal offering a discount for the hair cutting services of John R from Q I at Four Seasons (he does an amazing job on the hair of one of the fabulous HK stylist and blogger DressMe‘s Jasmine Webster), I jumped at the chance to book him.   Happy to find out there was an appointment today (Saturday) which was even better considering I had such a horrible day the day before.  I needed some pampering so excited turned up at the salon.  I have to admit to being a tiny bit skeptical about how much of a difference going to a significantly higher priced stylist.  Hallelujah!  I was converted.  John was super friendly and it was great to find out we had mutual friends.  He also asked me what I wanted (my response was “Errr….I don’t know I just don’t want to look so messy and look like I have a fat face!”)  He discreetly directed me to keep my length as much as possible and that my wavy hair is actually a plus (WHAT??? I spent years and money on straight perm and straighteners and probably ruined about two thirds of my hair!)  So whilst he was snipping away, we were chatting over a variety of interesting topics and then voila…before I could continue to waffle on about random stuff…he was finished.

I looked into the mirror and it was a truly magical moment.  My hair looked shiny, wavy and bouncy.  My previous ombre treatment on my hair (5 months ago…oops) was given a new lease of life with the hair cut.  I think John gave me a strange look when I squealed “OOOO I feel like Kate Middleton”.  My mood brightened and skipped out of the salon with my hair bouncing along with me.  Sorry I did not take photos to do the cut justice…the lighting in the IFC Mall was a little funny…

Loving the wavy hair!!

Anyway, if you need that magical hair experience…I definitely recommend John from Q I Salon at Four Seasons…

My Valentine’s Wishlist/Perfect Outfit

My Valentine's Wishlist/Perfect Outfit
With Valentine’s Day looming (actually it is tomorrow), this post is I guess highly appropriate.  The boy and I do not really celebrate Valentine’s (AKA he does not see the point of spending extra money for a bunch of flowers because it is a specific day…I guess I do agree but it is still nice to get flowers then…office bragging rights!)  Anyway, this post is about my wish list of Valentine’s Day gifts that I would ask for if:
a) I won the EuroMillions or the boy did and I could buy whatever I wanted.
b) I had any fashion PR on speed dial (this is probably more unlikely than me winning the Euro lottery!)
So to keep it romantic, the general theme is girly and pink.  I surprisingly (considering I do not consider myself to be girly) have a lot of pink in my wardrobe.  However, with the sunlight streaming through the windows (very un-Winter HK weather), I have chosen more pastel pinks than the brighter neon pinks (with one exception).  In keeping with Valentine’s Day, it probably is a bit more “sugary” than what I would usually pick but variety I guess keeps life interesting.
The key pieces I think in this look are the skirt and jacket from MSGM (not to be mis-searched as MGSM which results in Macquarie Graduate School of Management – oh the wonders of Google search) which is a brand founded by Italian designer Massimo Giorgetti in 2008.  I saw an amazing picture from NYFW with my super style crush Nicole Warne (Gary Pepper Vintage) wearing an acid yellow coat (it was a real citrus/fruity fest actually) which has been credited as being from MSGM though I cannot find it on their website. Either way, I love it because it was such a brave pop of colour amidst the grey and snowy streets of NYC.

I also loved the floral top that Chiara Ferragni from The Blonde Salad wore in a recent NYFW look which is in MSGMs current 2013 S/S Cruise Collection.

So yes, I loved the pink tweed biker jacket which is currently available from Lane Crawford.  The pink tweed makes it girly and cute but the biker cutting gives it a bit more of an edge.  To match the jacket, I chose a great floral skater style skirt (in pink and white) which is also MSGM at Lane Crawford.  To make sure I don’t overdose on the girliness I chose a pair of boots from Australian brand Tony Bianco.  The “Averty” boots are currently only available to pre-order but have already seen them on the feet of super-bloggers at NYFW.  They are totally edgy and yet not too high that you cannot walk in them!  I also chose a blue chambray shirt from M&S to complete my clothing choices.  To finish the outfit, I chose some super cute “love” themed accessories such as the cute heart pendant from Coach.  Make-up wise, I chose to focus on the lips with the gloss from Aerin and the Deborah Lippmann lip and nail set.  Perfect for kissable lips!  Finally, I could not resist the cute “love birds” make up pouch from Next.  Unfortunately, I can only find it on the Next UK website. You could use this as a clutch as it is so cute!  If like me, you prefer a larger bag then how can you resist this pink “Laurie” bag from Laura Vela?  Extremely girly in colour with the pearly sheen to the leather, it is practical in shape and size.
So there you go…my Valentine’s Day themed wishlist.
